Your God is Too Small

“We may here point out the great difference that has come to exist between the Christianity of the early days and that of today. To us it has become a performance, a keeping of rules, while to the men of those days it was, plainly, an invasion of their lives by a new quality of life altogether.”

As an example of the truth in your quote, a highly moral young man I know well, a “traditionalist” Episcopalian, said a few weeks ago that “We couldn’t get it right, so Jesus came to show us how. All we have to do is what he said.”

I believe the great challenge in this age is to convey the gospel to those who think they already know it, so that the real thing will be there when they realize that the “gospel” they know has nothing to offer when they are in extremis. The fields are white for the harvest.
